Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

A nickel? That was too much, Hobbes. Every one of Calvin’s tricks requires at the least a 20 dollar bill.

Plus they threw in a deck of cards and some chips because they knew you were a gamble.

Perhaps Calvin no longer wishes to be a tiger now.

C’mon Hobbes, let’s cut out the clowning: Calvin is going to get a nervous breakdown.

Awww Calvin looks so cute in panel 3 in his jammies with the tail pinned on lol

Leonardeuler, how would one tell if Calvin is having a nervous breakdown–considering that he’s perennially a walking example of one?!

A dollar for a tiger,
A nickel for a boy,
Prices are so meagre,
Like for a broken toy.
But the Tiger isn’t broken,
And Calvin has a ploy.
He’ll offer up the tiger
For someone to employ.
But tigers do not work for others,
And Calvin’s ploy will fail.
And all of us must bear in mind
That TIGERS WILL PREVAIL.

hi everyone! calvin, since you can’t jump up high enough to smack hobbes just bite his tail!
rshive said, 6 months ago
A nickel! They could’ve gotten a dozen fleas for that.

PTui2- wonderful poem. So, true, tigers will always prevail!

The flea market paid Calvin’s parents a nickle to take him away? They really need to learn how to haggle.

Don’t feel so bad Calvin. With inflation you’re now worth 7 cents!

Calvin, I guess you need to go around “marking” your territory then.

is there any place i can see the end before calvin and i both have a nervous breakdown?

Morning ninmas. Yes, I imagine Hobbes would feel a bite on his tail much more than Calvin would on his. LOL

Get an agent Calvin. You’ll probably go for more as a tiger.
musicnut1986 said, 6 months ago
Boy, Hobbes sure looks smug in the forth frame. He must really like goat because he is really “getting Calvin’s goat”!
Radical-Knight, don’t tempt Calvin to start marking territory cause I have no doubt he would in a heart beat.

My name is Calvin, I’ve got a nickel, I’ve a nickel shiney and new, I’m gonna buy me a huge ol’ hit man that’s what I’m gonna do!

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

How happy are the people who sold Calvin for a nickel? Do you think they knew how much trouble he would be back then?
Northwoodser said, 6 months ago
When the theme stretches out like this one, the comments far exceed the comics.

Is not one Calvin sold for five pennies?
grazer said, 6 months ago
A nickle for the runt of the litter was a fair price back in ‘85.
fidget360 said, 6 months ago
They could only sell him for a nickel because they knew how much he was gonna cost in babysitter fees.

Hey C&H readers, I payed a lil’ homage to Bill Watterson’s style of art in panel three of my comic today: http://www.gocomics.com/imaginethis
Just thought y’all would enjoy it.

@JonD17 – Oh, it’s a total stretch. I mimicked a scene from one of my fav C&H Sunday strips. Not nearly the same, but nevertheless, an homage. Thanks for checking it out!

Hey Fidget360, I see you’re also an M.C. Escher fan. With the vast body of work created by Mr. Escher could you not find another piece to use for your avatar?

~ Yes, they are. I had lots of them back in the Midwest, along with trillium, May apples, wild ginger, mertensia, squill, and other beautiful wild flowers. I do miss those, but I don’t miss the weather. I think that lilies of the valley would be correct, but I’m sure that someone will let us know.

Lily of the valley is correct. It’s the name of the plant, not descriiptive of the blossoms on the stalk.
Turnbloom- thanks again for the tribute to a classic.
