Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

I love this strip. Hobbes put all the buildings on Baltic Ave.
We had a friend who would be the banker, and would stick several $100s in his pocket for ‘get away money’.

(the last panel) The evolution or shall I say the de-evolution of a boy’s eduction.

Now where would he learn those words? – Susie? Uncle Max? surely not from Hobbes! Where do all children learn such words?

Money often is a hard test for a friendship!Sometimes struggleing is the end of it!

Love the flailing Calvin is doing in the last panel…and how unconcerned the parents seem that their child is having a major tantrum…more proof of how desensitized they’ve become to his temper even at such a young age.

What’s even funnier is that Baltic is one of the cheap properties…

Hmmm, sounds like how our financial crisis got going…
And when Calvin lands a few streets down, Hobbes will move all the houses and hotels there. I think he learned the IRS rules of play…

Never understood why people take monopoly so personally, so your brother/significant other just did you over for a few hundred $’s! It’s just a game lol, I hardly ever get to play it even tho’ I love it, ‘cause the rest of the family breaks down in to arguing with each other, and then won’t play again for years…. Crazy ^^

After loosing yesterday’s chess game, another bitter blow for Calvin.

Ah, Calvin and Hobbes, what a riot.

I never see the name “Baltic” Ave., St., or Blvd. on the monopoly game. (Scoffs!) Apparently, they make up for that word to play that game. LOLs!

This was written years ago and Calvin had bankers all figured out! It took most of us until 2008 to come to this realisation.

I had to laugh at every panel reading this! It’s even funnier now than when it came out originally!

Yeah, I agree!! Watterson must have either had a kid or been one from hell himself. No adult could think up stuff like this himself. Loveit, loveit, loveit.

Although I would say realistically calvin does portray most yuong kids of his ages, I also think he is very stereotypical in the way he fights against his parents, won’t eat nicely, pretends hobbes is real, so although we might say Calvin is quite orginal maybe his not this strip today shows another stereotypical side to calvin a side that has to win, i agree watterson has an amazing imagination but how much of it did he get from justing watching a kid for a while?

i dont much care for monopoly, it is just a realy boring way to find out you are bad with money. lol. cute strip though.

Wildmustang: Do you mean you do not have a Baltic Ave. on your monopoly game, or that you ignore it when you play, because it is worth so little? There are different versions of the game now for many different cities around the world. Baltic was on the original based on Atlantic City, I believe.

just get a bailout from the gov, calvin.

I used Monopoly to teach my kids that life is tough. If they landed on a property I would tell them the rent that was due and if they paid me (even though I didn’t own it), too bad. As banker, at the start of the game, and during it, if they were due money, I’d often short change them; if they didn’t count it, too bad. They both grew up to be successful businessmen ;-) And their psychiatrists say they are doing well.

Surprisingly, Bill Watterson had no kids. He also mentioned he was nothing like Calvin although says his dad was alot like Calvin’s.
Pretty neat how Watterson’s vivid imagination made a cartoon character so totally relatable to so many for so long.

I agree with you grazer! Also, When i was younger my friend and i always played monopoly. We’d put tons of 500s in the middle and whoever landed on free parking got them. I ended up with like 30 500s eventually. But we never fought like calvin and hobbes!

Isn’t Calvin cute? thou sly sometimes. Childish sly. lol and Hobbes alwayz so out of words and go with the flow, haha
TV taught Calvin alot, or just him so smart that could learn from? LOL
SlyGuy54 said, 8 months ago
Wow.. who knew Hobbes could be SUCH a “play by the rules kinda guy”
Although I wonder how both Mom and Dad can listen to all that and not question Calvin’s sanity!
