Given where our society is headed, I don’t think it makes very much differece at all.

It made a difference at the time, but as our glowing example above shows, the rot had already set in. LOL

Calvin (like all children) is merely a reflection of society….. whatever that is today

With a shirt like that, Uncle Max, it’s no wonder why you aren’t married. You probably can’t even get a date!

After this visit, uncle Max never will have kids

After this visit, Uncle Max will probably go to the doctor to get “fixed”.

Calvin may be a little stinker sometimes, but he’s not so bad. I know some peoples whose kids could have convinced the octuplet mom to take birth control.

I love moms face in the last frame.

That question, alas, is asked daily, or nightly, by our anti-moral society.

Uncle Max is really Jon Arbuckle. (He’s wearing a fake mustache to try to look cool)
grazer said, 9 months ago
I’m getting reminded why Watterson never brought uncle Max back on the scene again….his normality feels awkward and makes the daily humor very strained.
Nice try, Mr. Watterson.
God’s speed, Max.

Max is Calvin’s gay uncle. Not married, clone moustache, a shirt covered with triangles…
And watch for the other Max panels, especially when he talks about relationships. Gay as a garden party!

To whom it may concern:
Your morals are not mine, nor are they superior, so bugger off.

Calvin kicks butt and says it like it is! Ordinary people don’t, which is why we need comic strips to ask the salient questions and point out the obvious.

In last panel, Mom is thinking, what is this and where did it come from?
BirishB said, 8 months ago
Didn’t dad say he hasn’t seen Max in a couple of years? After this week of torture, I’m not sure he’ll ever see Max again.
And the mystery as to why he hasn’t seen Max in a couple of years isn’t such a mystery after all …
iowaweav said, 8 months ago
You know, Uncle Max could really be Bill Mahr…

I gotta say … it seems that a lot of people are vexed by Calvin’s behavior, maybe?
Calvin is an awesome kid and would be a great son! His imagination and energy are both fantastic! He’s always thinking, challenging, questioning, learning, and growing (you know, if he were real).
Oh, wait, my younger son is just like him! Maybe that’s why he’s so appealing to me?
Unabashed exuberance rocks!

“Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers.”
– Socrates
“Many people today are deceived into believing that only the present generation of students is rebelling and retaliating against the raw power of teachers and administrators in schools (‘Something must be wrong with this generation’).” (Gordon, p. 200)

LOL, jcipc2004!! Personally i like Dads face in the last panel!!Sorry Dad, but it looks like your not gonna see Maxfor another couple years, atleast until Calvins 18 and moved out (won’t that be fun…Calvin, out in the world all alone, just him and Hobbes…shivers)

klittle, I like your ideas! Calvin always reminded me of my sons, too. They were individual, funny, and resourceful. They still are, but grown up now! and great.
Wildmustang1262 said, 8 months ago
I don’t care whether if Uncle Max is a gay or straight or asexual The sexual orientation are not important to me but I more likely think that Max is a human being and if he wants to be a single for rest of his life. That is up to him. Calvin! You better keep your mouth ZIP up! and eat the supper! Sigh! :-/

The moralists should go put their heads back in the sand (or wherever it is they usually have their heads). The idea that “society is going to hell” is ignorant of history. Prudish morality comes and goes. Vice has been around forever. Focus on yourselves and when you’re ready to live in a diverse society, you can pull your head out.
p.s. I love me some Calvin and Hobbes.

Whats wrong with kids outside of wedlock? If their raised without a huge amount of fuss over marriage, in a neighborhood where no one cares, they turn out as good as most. The kids that are most beat up are the ones whos parents get about nine divorces during the kids time at home.
gesturpa said, 8 months ago
Many of my friends who have kids aren’t even thinking about getting married any time soon, so I agree with the point Calvin makes, why do you have to be married to have kids?
