With all the grief that Mom takes from Calvin, she still shows her unwavering love with a warm blanket and a mug of hot chocolate. Aren’t Moms the greatest?
Here’s wishing all Moms out there an early Happy Mother’s Day!
Hopefully this strip is a prelude to some “snowman” strips. THOSE ARE THE GREATEST!!!
Hobbes looks like he’s in danger of catching fire in that last panel, are we talking grilled tiger steaks or singed kapok ;)
A more adult version of that drink is now calling to me Mocha coffee made with 3 heaped teaspoons of Bournville cocoa, double strnength espresso, half a mug of whipped cream some mini marshmallows and a final jolt of cream on top, all placed in the microwave ‘til it’s almost boiling over and finally sprinkled with some cocoa or flaked chocolate…. mmmm.
God Bless Calvin’s mom for being so sweet to the little hellion. Bet she’d like to put a couple of Valium in his cocoa just to enjoy the calmer side of Calvin a little longer. (hee-hee)
When we were sick, my mom made us chicken noodle soup with crackers and tucked us in on the couch where we could watch TV, a great treat! And she always read to us. Sometimes we got “sick” just to stay home and soak up all that TLC.
being from new england i remember as a young boy being out playing in 0 degree weather.i would come in with wet boots and feet. my mom would dry off my feet and take dry socks and put her hands in them rubbing them to get them warm and put them on my feet. ahh memories.thanks mom.
This was rather heartwarming after the Uncle Max thread of last week (which I assume will continue tomorrow). Good to see Calvin being a little bit normal for a change.
@cruncher3, peanut butter was OK, it was only the pre-manufactured things like candy that were recalled. The factories that made the contaminated PB sold only to other companies. It wasn’t packaged for sale as peanut butter. Let’s hear it for homemade Peanut butter cups (chocolate dipped in peanut butter)!
What I wouldn’t give to be able to sit and talk to Mum one more time (and Dad to). There is so much that I want to tell them and so many questions that I would like to ask. Thanks Mum! Thanks Dad! I love you both.
Oh my gracious! How nice thoughful of Calvin’s mother giving Calvin hot chocolate and peanut butter crackers? It is so unconditional love for Mother to treat children like that. I wish my mum would do the same thing. If she lives right now, she would be 85 years old. I miss her very much but I am so overjoyous that my mum’s spirit will always be around me all the time. She is in heaven, looks at us and radiantly smiles. I love my mum very much. Thanks Mum!
Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

This shows that a mother is capable of loving even the wildest kid. Enjoy your hot cocoa, I think I’ll do the same, it’s soooo cold today :(

My mother is visiting her mother at the hospital today. I hope I never have to see my mum in the same state that she has to see my grandma.
