Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

LOL, poor Hobbes. Hobbes, you could just climb out of the washer and into the dryer, you know. Calvin could push start and add a dryer sheet to reduce static cling.

The idea of that boy operating machinery scares me.

yes, we would not want Hobbes to shrink now, do we?

Tiger, tiger, soaking wet,
not too happy now I’ll bet.
Calvin needs him to get dry
but mother will not even try.
Calvin wants to help out Hobbes
but cannot reach the dryer knobs.

Very nice, Yukoner; but the Blake is in quatrains, as you will recall.
Tiger, tiger, awash in suds,
Tangled with the family duds,
Survived that cycle, and the spin,
And the rinse, since he got in.
Now deems he that ‘tis vile to wait
For surcease, just ‘cause Mom is late.
Now drips he there, his mien ascowl,
Ill-wishing her in re: a towel.

Mom will be surprised seeing Hobbes in the washing machine!
opuscroakus70 said, 9 months ago
Actually the point is mom put Hobbes in the washer, you can do that with stuffed animals to get them clean, but Hobbes doesn’t look too happy.

remember the time Mom used too much softener?
A special good morning to you, my own “Hobbes”

It’s the cold water rinse that really irks him.

C’mon Calvin, take your flame thrower and Hobbes will be dry in a few seconds. But be carefull Calvin !!

If he made it through the spin cycle he has nothing to complain about waiting a bit to be put in the dryer.

@Gweedo Murray;
During my daily commute I see many lunatics behaving badly. Many have Calvin stickers on their machines. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

I think the Hobbes is going for a spin.

olfart: I believe those stickers are copywright violations.
I believe Watterson refused to licence his characters.

Hobbes, why don’t you just hop out of the washing machine and chase Calvin around the house threatening to shake water all over him. Calvin’s mom will see that the whole house is getting wet and will immediately stop what she is doing and put you in the dryer? Problem solved.
ninmas said, 9 months ago
hobbes, i think you really should do that to her!>:)

My mom told me and my brothers how to wash our own stuff. If we want it dry we had to hang it up! to this day one of my brothers still irons his own clothes.
As a public service to those who think this maybe a way to clean DON”T DO it!!!
Just a bit of the foam of soap on the outer sides that need it, bush it off with a bush with some water put the stuffed wonderful(¿) in a bag like pillow case or stocking bag as to not damage the eyes. put it in the drier LOW. One wants to KILL the mites that are IN it. Apologies to the long post

Only in America (umm, Canada, Yukoner?) do we have poetry written to cartoon characters (said the cartoon organ). Is this a great country or what?!

Count yer blessings you scurvy hairball….she could’ve send you to the drycleaners.

4deer, yes I do recall and tip my toque (hat) to your verse.

LOLs! Poor Hobbes! I just wonder what if the final spin cycle of the washer jaundiced and wobbled while Hobbes was inside the washer, he would be helplessness and dizziness. Apparently Hobbes didn’t feel dizzy.
I usually put stuffed animals in the washer with a little bit of detergent and cold water. After the washer finishes, I put them with Cling or Bounce sheet in the dryer and turn the knob for low tumble. The stuffed animals come out very fresh and clean. Also, smell good!
Marg, good point! LOLs!
Yukoner and 4deer, perfect poetries! LOLs!
Sledgehammer, using the cold water will save the energy.
Gweedo No fear, be brave. :-) lols!

aerwalt, you are correct. In his 10 year introspective, Mr. Watterson spends a few pages discussing it. Long story short, the syndicate wanted him to license out & he wouldn’t. Mr. Watterson said that the fight may have contributed to his first sabatical.

I remember when I was little and my Mom did that to my stuffed animals.
Good times…
And poor Hobbes. He doesn’t look happy AT ALL.

~ Mom puts him in the washing machine when he gets too dirty from wrestling around in the dirt with Calvin.

At least Calvin doesn’t miss Hobbes as much as Linus misses his security blanket when it’s being washed.

oCinneide,
Wasn’t aware of Watterson commentary (not all that adventuresome on Internet). Can you provide the link to which you allude, please?
