I always wondered where numerator came from. It’s obvious now number eighter. Calvin is sure to get an A. Or maybe an Aye?

Hobbes would look very good in a jacket with elbow patches.

There’s something very wrong with this comic strip…oh right… since when does Calvin do homework?
On a side note, when I was Calvin’s age, I used to think advanced maths involved bigger numbers. How silly…there’s no numbers, only Greek letters.

A mathematician Hobbes is not.

Poor Calvin, in the last panel he looks genuinely concerned that he’s gotten his homework wrong…. maybe we’ve underestimated him all this time?
Hobbes is such a genius <3

Is this what you call “fuzzy” math?
prasrinivara said, 9 months ago
Nothing wrong, green_engineer: Calvin DOES homework, only almost never on time (exception being the story Hobbes wrote for him) nor correctly.

Jweb - its furry math!

Can you imagine what we would get if Calvin was learning about “imaginary” numbers… which personally I believe was just made up by someone like Hobbes and the whole mathematical world went for it, hook line and sinker… I mean look they went for numerator didn’t they?

Look at the math Hobbes did on the paper. I bet Hobbes has no clue what he is doing
JonD17 said, 9 months ago
Ohh Hobbes, dear tiger, it is you who is advanced, far too advanced for 1st grade studies. You should be in the post-grad realm.

And people called Newton a kook in his time.

yukoner, I love that term, mathemagician…. that is the way it seemded to me once I got past advanced Algebra, and now I am in the final throes of a 40 year career in Chemical and Mechanical Engineering…. scary thought, eh?

Hobbes just likes messing with Calvins’ mind. Even if he knows how to do the math right, he would still tell Calvin this was the way it’s done.

Love this comic! Such brilliant humor.
Great comments too, kids!
………..
Still working on the problem myself but suspect the answer is 38.

“So what times three equals eight? The answer, of course, is six.”
Hobbes, how on earth did you derive that? Did you use the theorem of Guessology?
PaulAtreides said, 9 months ago
after recent events, Hobbes is now able to get a job at:
A. taken
B. taken
C. taken
D. laid off
E. All of the above, but less hours
prasrinivara said, 9 months ago
Macushlaondra, Calvin getting wrong answers is status-quo everyday; when he gets the answer RIGHT, you know it’s a Sod’s Law day!

johnnydoc5 said, 9 months ago
Boy, if the answer is six, then I have to reevaluate the way I do math.
Wildmustang1262 said, 9 months ago
It is not alegbra. His homework is just a basic math! 3+8 is 11! Calvin had not learned on Algebra yet. Sheesh! Hobbes, if you give Calvin wrong answer, you will be regretted!
papa smurf said, 9 months ago
2 cubed (the third power) is 8.
2 times 3 is 6. 6 makes sense to me as a likely answer! ;)

Disliked Math extemely in HS and still do. Never needed Algebra or Geometry in my chosen profession thank goodness and would never attempt Calculus for any amount of $$$$. The only Teacher that really tried to help me with math was my 5th grade teacher Miss McDonough to whom I will be forever grateful! The Nuns and Teachers at my HS could have cared less which was disappointing considering the money my Dad spent sending me to a Private Catholic School (which I didn’t want to go to).

math hates me and i hate it. it is all good. i could not do it. im not planing on teaching any higher then 3rd grade bc of the math.
m_ortal said, 9 months ago
I challenge you to find one thing that you do that does not involve math in some form. Folks who hate math do so for several reasons, the most usual one being that we do not have many elementary teachers who really like math. That’s one reason they want to teach elementary subjects, so they can avoid math, and this fear transfers to the students.
