Like the Gods away in clouds,
we watch the dreams and imaginings of children.
Thence to drink the perfect wine of happiness.
O Little child,
O mystery,
Let your laughter ever sooth my soul,
my own dear memories then to happily relive.

If mom comes in and sees him tied up she’ll have to believe that HObbes is real! How else would Calvin get tied up?

Part of Bill Watterson’s genius in this comic is his ability to balance Calvin’s world (with Hobbes as a living tiger) and the world we all live in, where Hobbes is stuffed and unable to move.
As I was writing this, I realized that’s not the complete story. Calvin has plenty of other worlds, such as Spaceman Spiff, or the sandbox. These worlds do not match up with the real world as well, although there are still certain correspondences (like Spaceman Spiff being captured and tortured when Calvin is in the classroom).
Still, in this case, Calvin’s parents won’t buy the argument that “Hobbes tied me up.” They will have to come up with another view. He he he.

Bill Watterson says Calvin looks at hobbes one way and the rest of the world a different way because none of us view the world the same way
