Unfortunatally from experience this never works. they always give up speaking all together before this happens. Maybe Dad should try this, I don’t think Calvin could stay quite for long. Mind you he is quite stubborn so maybe.
I think Calvin picked well, there is no way Calvin could have done this on Mum. Mum would have shut him in his bedroom to tidy it. I love how Dads face changes in every panel making it more interesting.

For grazer:Do you have a child between 4 and 6? How about you try changing his/her mind when he/she is being very stubborn?
I’ve tried it with my nephews (and some of my cousins’ children) of those ages–and failed miserably.
Being a hard head like a solid rock, eh!
Yesterday the strip was about Hobbes hid by the mojo lamp.
stpatme and marg Thanks for defining the word, “mojo.” I got it clearly! Wink! ;-) I think my sister might have the mojo lamp that was from my mother’s great aunt in the Victorian era. But I was not sure

I think this would have been a better strip if Calvin and changed expressions. Even though I realise Calvins mood doesn’t change much through out the strip i still think Bill could have changed his expression even slightly.
But I still love this strip!
i just love how calvin walks up to his dad and tells him that he is “repeating everything anyone says” that is so smart. Then dad is kind of thinking “whatever”. and stupidely says something that he could repeate. so smart dad. what makes dad think that calvin would fall for something as good as dessert, come on dad. oh and the whole go bug your mother is tipical dad stuf. it is great. Bill did a great job capaturing the normal 6 year old and dad. i love it.
My brother used to do that to me a lot. I must agree with Calvin’s dad on this one as being extremely annoying. I’ve never understood a child’s prediliction for being a disturbing element.
I have to agree with tabbylynn Bill did capture the strip very well. Calvins pure glee over more dessert is the perfect ending to this strip. Any 6 year old would want the dessert but Calvin is clever enough to get it. Hat off to Calvin hope you get the dessert in the next strip, you deserve it!

Really, space-cadet, do you think that Calvin, despite his opportunistic cleverness, will get the extra deserts? City Hall always wins in the end; even if you win, they win.
Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

You gotta get up pret-tee early to pull a fast one on dad.

Gotta be frustrating for a Patent Attorney dad to get out-maneuvered by his 6 year old kid.

Calvin is smart beyond his years…Dad is no match.

If dad really wanted to play he should have said “OK, Give them to _me_.”
It’s probably a good thing that Calvin has as much insight as he does imagination. It will help him in his adult years…

Calvin just couldn’t say it, and Dad just had to say something instead of being quiet.
