“Arboreal menace?” You don’t learn that word playing video games or watching TV. But you know what? The word’s right in character for Calvin. He has hidden depths.
I think Dad can take this opportunity to teach Calvin something about entropy. It’s much easier to create chaos than to bring order out of it. Calvin with calluses. Satisfying.

I have a similar story for darkand stormy nights, but it involves styrofoam peanuts:
Did you ever notice how you never see just one, they ALWAYS travel in PACKS! And the eerie noise they make as they come TOWARDS YOU across the floor? They won’t get me! I’VE SEEN THEM FEED!!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!

Why do they even bother with raking the yard, when they have Calvin around? He will mess it up anyway. LOL

Leave an unattended Leaf pile for a kid to find, Yes, Dad, you will have to rake again.

where is hobbes??? it is just not as fun without him. but for real dont all parnets know that you can not rake a yard and then leave it alone without anybody around to watch it and expect it to still be keept up when you go back to it a few hours latter. come on dad. goodness.

I’ve graded college biology papers where students didn’t know “arboreal.” See, comics are eduacational, not a waste of time!

Now if Dad were really smart he would tell Calvin that the great pumpkin could only appear from the middle of a large pile of leaves. This would cause Calvin, with Hobbes help, to rake up all the leaves again in anticipation of the gifts that the great pumpkin would bring.

It’s Dad’s fault. He should have bagged the leaves, or put them in the compost. A job half done , happens all the time.

I have to agree with you. It’s Dad’s faault for not finishing the job.

My childhood dog loved to romp in the leaves, even when us kids were in school. One day we left the rake (a bow rake) under the pile and poor Butch got pronged. My Mom bandaged his leg, but we all felt bad. Butch never jumped in leaves again.

In our area we rake our leaves into piles by the road and the town has a big, noisy leaf-vacuum shredder truck that picks them up.

Years ago a little girl hid in a pile of leaves at the curb waiting to surprise her Dad when he came home. Daddy +parking at the curb = not good outcome.
It may be good that Calvin is scared of THE PILE.
