That was sweet. Mom slips into Calvin’s world for a moment. We know she loves Hobbes, she washes him whenever he gets dirty.

This is both very real and very touching. I think the parents’ behavior is quite authentic.
Wonder how much autobiography is in this strip?

A very long time ago I met a man who knew Bill Watterson tangentially, as his grandson was one of the “role models” for Calvin’s character. He said what the kid could get up to was amazing. :)

As a child I had two stuffed Teddy Bears that were my imaginary friends. To me they were alive. Special parents realize just how important these “friends” are.

this strip shows where calvin got his imaginative/silly/creative side (from his mom!) and his realistic/blunt/no-fuss side (wherelse!).. :)

Don’t know that I’d “holler” for Hobbs…but I got admit I’d probably be wandering around out there muttering “All right Hobbs, where are you?” out loud.

I just changed my avatar and wanted to see how it looked. I love mums face in the last frame. Sheer embrassement. It makes you wonder if Mum was ever like Calvin. I think Dad needs to losen up if they start to think like Calvin they may end up thinking about where Calvin left Hobbes.

LOLs! I like the third panel. Mother hollered for Hobbes. Father became wide-opened and puzzled. And the last panel, my guess is that Father did not want to be a “stupid” like Mother for hollering Hobbes’ name. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaa…….

How often do we see a Calvin and Hobbes strip without Calvin or Hobbes? BTW, about 18 years ago I did this type of thing at the shopping mall for my son’s “Ernie” (from Sesame Street). I was there after it closed and they let me stay. When I brought Ernie home, it was all worth it.

Wana-be Parrents take note: This will be what you have to look forward to at some point chasing after imaginary animails / beasts in the closet / under the bed. Hosting tea parties for those not there yet in our world. This reminds me heavily of my own childhood before I grew up…

    For space-cadet:

Hobbes will show up soon enough, like the proverbial “bad penny”.

My son was so much live Calvin that I felt he needed a Hobbes too so from the cartoon book I created a 3 foot high hobbes as Calvin sees him and took photos of him doing my sons homework at his school desk in his room. Brings back a lot om memories and my son is now 31 and still has Hobbes.
