I just went back and read the posts from after my bedtime last night (or during the World Series). A really good thread. We seem to have a few readers for whom English is not their native tongue. This is a great way to learn colloquial English (a VERY difficult language) and to expand your vocabulary. I first learned what “invulnerable” means from reading Superman comics as a kid.
It’s also a great way for young people to learn to carry on an adult conversation. You don’t say things as an adult or to adults that you would say to other 12-year-olds, or that you hear on sitcoms.

Ray C – Reading posts is also a good way to learn about self-righteousness and smarminess. Or how to be unctuous and how to talk down to others. Or how to sound sincere and full of nonsense at the same time.

    Calvin is definitely a politician…

See??? Mr & Ms Taxpayer see how I can make your income disappear

or Calvin can be the CEO of a large corporation

See??? Mr & Ms worker see how I can make your wages disappear

I dunno … Calvin’s dad looks pretty on top of things. Are M/M Taxpayer all that with it? We keep forking out the billions to anyone fatcat who says he needs ‘em.

And anyway, don’t read so much into it. Calvin just wants to escape from a horrible situation (-parents!) just like the rest of us do! ;)

Dad can tell when he’s being bamboozled. He’s an attorney (albeit a patent attorney).

Incidentally this is why I still hve faith that America will not allow itself to be bamboozled into a similar redistributing of the wealth.

If I didn’t know better I’d think this was drawn yesterday.

Were you addressing me? I don’t think I mentioned anything about misspelled words. They do make an impression on people who read them, though, now that you mention it.
