Don’t make music like they used to. My favorite music is still soul and rock & roll from the 60s and 70s.

I RESENT THAT! I LOVE Kenny G. And he IS jazz. Smooth jazz. Not in the ranks of Coltrane or Monk or Mingus, but he is jazz. I find Kenny G very comforting with a glass of vodka, some caviar blintzes and a lit pipe.

I don’t understand why people pick on Kenny G. Like Mr Stark, I too listen to him accompanied by alcohol and lighting something on fire. No fish eggs tho. Low salt diet.

I like Kenny G, as well as Chuck Mangione. My 2 favorite pieces from CM are Feels so Good, and Batavia. Then again I like the ups and downs of riding elevators too.

I think you’d better rephrase that statement of yours: with me, Kenny G is a glass of vodka, a plate of caviar blintzes, a lit tobacco pipe, a dressing gown and a nice stuffed armchair…with you, it sounds like arson.

I dig Beatles, Kenton, Ferguson, Ellington, Miller, a bunch of others. I’ll even listen to country when it’s the only station that’ll come in and I’m tired of listening to my book of CDs (which I keep in the car). Plus I have a huge collection of Irish and vaguely Celtic music.

Guy wrote to Readers’ Digest a decade or two ago about his surprise at the posters in his kid’s bedroom: Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, Doors. “What happened to Twisted Sister, Kiss, Ozzy Osbourne, Dead Kennedys?” he asked. “Oh, my tastes have changed,” kid replies indifferently, “I listen to the classics now.”

Yep, I actually have a number of Ferguson recordings. Caught him in concert once or twice, too. He’s in my list, along with his former bandleader Kenton, Ellington, Miller, Mingus, Parker, Beatles, a lot of Irish/Celtic. Heck, I’ll even listen to country if it’s the only station I can get in and I’m tired of swapping CDs in and out of the car.
