Living in an enchanted forest with surrealistic landscapes, the engaging characters of Broom Hilda happily have no connection with reality. Other comic characters are extensions or distortions of reality, but Broom Hilda deals in pure fantasy, making the strip bewitchingly unique. Here in the forest, the inhabitants maintain a standard of madness where total irrelevance is the only relevancy. The strip is simply a loony-bin where what’s said and done often makes no sense whatsoever, much to the joy of its millions of fans.

Nerwin is creepily literal-minded. Auntie Broomie, this when your ability to laugh is being tested!

I’m afraid Russell Myers is reaching his end as well.

Why? Is he really sick, or do you think his humor’s on its last legs?
Serious question.

Yes, I’ve been read this strip since it’s debut in 1971. Tell us!

When you’re as old as Broomie, “any day now” could mean any time in the next century or two. It’s all relative…

I remember seeing Russell Myers as a celebrity on the game show “Pictionary,” the rare time that they had actual cartoonists on the show. They took the board game and made it like “Win, Lose or Draw.”

She really should have specified where she was going.

Broom Hilda is more than 1500 years old. She’s been old for more than 1,430 years.

Is there a rest home or retirement home for old witches?

Ol’ Broomie is just feeling sorry for herself, but Nerwin isn’t falling for it.
Reminds me of SANDFORD AND SON. “I’m comin’, Elizabeth! This is the big one!”

Redd Foxx could really crack me up. That guy was just funny.

After Broomie goes (if she ever does), I can just see her sending her friends postcards from the afterlife that say “Wishing You Were Here.”

Broomie is “Auntie” to a troll? Wow, these intermarriages in a enchanted forest are really rough! Wonder how the buzzard fits in?
Richard said, 11 days ago
Send her to Endor, there is a home for aged ox cart drivers and witches.

Nerwin is apparently Irwin’s biological nephew.
Broomie is merely a member of their extended family which was done by adaption.
The people whom I called “Uncle Elmer” and “Aunt Neva” were not blood related to me.
My mother’s widowed father married again after he retired. The widowed woman’s widowed name was “Rosa Wood;” but her maiden name was “Moss.”
Dad called Grandma Rosa’s sister, “Aunt Daisy.” Aunt Daisy and her husband were Dad’s neighbor whose property was across the back fence. But, Dad really wasn’t that much younger than her.
And, when I lived with my parents for a while at that location, several of the neighborhood children called me “Uncle Joe.” And the boys next door and their mother called my parents “Grandpa” and “Grandma.”

Please, Broomie. The Grim Reaper has been scared of you ever since that blind date. Don’t you wonder why you’re as old as you are?
