Living in an enchanted forest with surrealistic landscapes, the engaging characters of Broom Hilda happily have no connection with reality. Other comic characters are extensions or distortions of reality, but Broom Hilda deals in pure fantasy, making the strip bewitchingly unique. Here in the forest, the inhabitants maintain a standard of madness where total irrelevance is the only relevancy. The strip is simply a loony-bin where what’s said and done often makes no sense whatsoever, much to the joy of its millions of fans.

Nerwin, you brought that on yourself! Flossie named no names; so, Nerwin, my lad, if the shoe fits, wear it!

Flossie is speaking in a normal tone of voice. What happened?

Too bad Ayn Rand isn’t around to see this. Nerwin distills Peter Keating from “The Fountainhead” and James Taggart from “Atlas Shrugged”.
Just because someone else is smarter or stronger or harder working than someone else does not make that second person any dumber or weaker or lazier. I’m hugely grateful for all the smart, strong, hard-working people in the world who make my life so much easier, safer, richer, and more fun.

Some times, students who make straight A’s are picked on and even beat up by students who make only D’s and F’s.
I knew classmates who were just lazy who hated those who made good grades.
Nerwin is a person? He’s certainly not human.
If he were given a haircut and were trimmed all over, he would be a naked troll. But, he’s naked anyway without his propeller beanie and sneakers.
But, in the children’s fairy tale books I read as a child, the trolls wore clothing.

Stupid, petty and uncharitable is, alas, a good description of most humans and most trolls.

Today’s strip is classic comic humor, and once again some people are taking it way too seriously. One gets the feeling that if these people were told a “knock knock” joke, they’d start ranting about the merits of doorbells versus knockers.
(I said “knockers” – hee hee!)

Making straight As was never something I had to worry about.

Ahh, love is in the air! (not)
Flossie’s being awfully quiet today. She got laryngitis?

B students do the most work–A students do EVERYTHING, C students are the ones that do no work and ace the tests. I’m proud to be a B student who measures exactly how much I have to do to succeed.

Never made straight A’s. At best I was a crooked A student.
