Living in an enchanted forest with surrealistic landscapes, the engaging characters of Broom Hilda happily have no connection with reality. Other comic characters are extensions or distortions of reality, but Broom Hilda deals in pure fantasy, making the strip bewitchingly unique. Here in the forest, the inhabitants maintain a standard of madness where total irrelevance is the only relevancy. The strip is simply a loony-bin where what’s said and done often makes no sense whatsoever, much to the joy of its millions of fans.

I too have no illusions about myself. Delusions, now that is another story.

It’s the old philosophers question. How can I prove that I actually exist outside of my own imagination? Do you exist or are you only a creation of my mind?

I exist, but you’re only a creation of my mind.

I think you’re all a figment of my imagination.
This is a good place to cue the Joe Walsh song Life of Illision.

I’m aware that I don’t have the guts to imagine something like Lady Gaga or America’s Next Top Model…
… and then, who is brave enough to imagine me?

Cogito, ergo, sum.
Broomie reminds me of Grouchy Smurf! Just a different color, that’s all.

I think, therefore I am.
But…….
If I stink, therefore I am in the bathroom.
Ya know?

My own existence is the only thing I can be certain of. As for others? Well… I don’t remember who said it (I think it was Thoreau or Emerson) or the exact wording, but I like “Treat other people as if they’re real, because perhaps they are.”
