Must say that a piece of me agrees with you, but the argument I heard on the other side of the issue makes some sense to me as well: If popular vote was the final determinant, one could win the Presidency by landsliding the biggest cities and metro areas. Take NYC, LA, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Houston, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, and maybe a few I have forgotten and one could win the Presidency without ever talking to people in Maine, Arkansas, Nebraska, or Idaho. If sheer numbers wins, regions disappear, and the urban populations run the country. Not that I entirely disagree, but that’s the argument I heard
