It will have to do. The IRS has scarfed up all the real ammo, presumably to shoot hard drives and not people organizing election campaigns against government tax policies.

I too have concerns about the militarization of our police forces. But the suggestion that the police shoot black teenagers on sight is both toxic and lazy. There are few things more damaging to the life prospects of a black youth than to convince him that the police are his enemies and to fill him with a paranoid fear of being shot down senselessly. Shame on the cartoonist for encouraging such a cynical and damaging worldview for the sake of a cheap gag.

It’s also cynical and damaging when a police officer yells “Bring it, you f**king animals!” at a group of protestors.

Military hardware, military camouflage, aiming lethal weapons at unarmed citizens. This is all a pretty blunt statement: “This is war and you are the enemy”.

Yes. I remember when Bush okayed the funds to transport the Oakland Black Panthers to Missouri to establish a beachhead against the fascist oppression of the Ferguson popo. It was very controversial at the time, so he hid it by starting a war in Iraq. I read it in my copy of The True History of W.

“The Governor of Missouri called in the National Guard because the peaceful demonstrators/looters started shooting each other.
The city cops tear gas didn’t work.Nor did the State cops tear gas.
Now the National Guard, full of war vets, gets to try their tear/puke gas out on the gang thugs/peaceful/looters.
    ……………………………………….
Given the opportunity, who wouldn’t shoot tear gas at an Al Jazeera news team?”

    1) They also shot tear gas at a peaceful protest group that included a US senator.
    2) Most reasonable people wouldn’t shoot at a news crew unless they were causing a life threatening situation. Are you suggesting that you would shoot at them just for being there???

When the crowd needs to disperse, the crowd needs to disperse. The situation is volatile. An innocent bystander is likely, in the next few moments, to become either a participant in violent riots or a victim of those riots. The show is over. Return to your homes. And especially return to your home if you are an outside agitator playing observer or journalist. Your presence will not have a calming effect or allow the truth to shine. It will only add to the numbers available to injure or be injured.

Exactly. Also, a riot is a horrible means to exert political pressure. Our democratic system specifically allows people to peaceably assemble and seek redress of grievances. A riot has the appearance of opportunistic criminality and is not persuasive, except in the most brutal and antidemocratic sense of “give us what we want or we will continue to harm innocent third parties.”

“give us what we want or we will continue to harm innocent third parties.”

In herd actions, there are no innocent parties.
Either one is with the herd, or against the herd.
Unfortunately for them, after they stampede they usually end up milling about and grazing, and are usually rounded up without difficulty and led to slaughter as easily as they were provoked to stampede.
