I was working some second growth plots in 1988. Reeealy bad year for yellowjackets. About ten every morning they would appear in clouds. they would crawl on you and it was the hardest thing not to smack them. Section leader said don’t let it bother you. One was chewing on my pinky finger at that point and I held it up and disgustedly asked what I was supposed to do? He said to blow on it. I did and it landed right back where it was..Ironically, I was stung by an ordinary honeybee that summer and not one of the multitudes of yellowjackets and bald hornets.
