Beware the flying purple weasel-monkeys from the future, for they are not what they seem. They are, in fact, cosmic squirrels in disguise - come to steal the acorn of your soul. - anonymous

Oh for heaven’s sake, he’s refering to ‘Planet of the Apes’, and any one of several robot movies. Knock it off, already.

Hey, blab all you want. I applaud free speech and I would never have it any other way. Anyone, who so chooses, is free to be racist - if that is their thing. And I, because I so choose, am free to protest against racism - because that is my thing. Maybe Tim did not intend for the strip to come across as racist. However, given the circumstances surrounding the recent elections, the strip, at best, is in extremely poor taste.

I’m with Shotta. It is racist. No two ways about it. Good “excuse” to tie it in to Planet of the Apes and robot movies– nudge, nudge, wink, wink, yeah, we get it. - Dale got it. runar got it. pookid54 got it. SuperRobot234 and doctortoon tried the “why can’t we all get along” approach. And two of you are just in complete denial because talk of racism makes you uncomfortable (ahem margueritem and RogOregon). Those who deny that it exists or wish it away are part of the problem– maybe even worse than those who are openly racist. I have more respect for those who take a stand one way or the other rather than those who would deny it altogether. Tim Rickard might not even BE a racist. I can’t make that judgement of him. I don’t know him. But he is certainly an intelligent man. And he HAS to have known that his cartoon would be inciteful. Most racism is subtle and not overt or blatant. We don’t look for it. We don’t HAVE to look for it. It either is or it isn’t. We know it when we see it. Problem is, I LOVED Brewster Rockit– until I saw today’s cartoon. I will never look at it the same way again. Very disappointing indeed.

Chickens lay eggs, the farmer collects the eggs, some people see this as food, others see it as abuse against chickens.

The chickens will continue to lay eggs all the same, no matter your point of view. It is like the play ‘Waiting for Godot’. Some see it as some deep meaning and soul searching piece of literature. Whereas the writer simply meant it as two guys waiting for someone who doesn’t show up.
It just shows that sometimes you shouldn’t read things into something that is not there.

CeeVee: I’ve read Brewster Rocket since it first appeared on GoComics. I find it tremendously humorous. I’ve seen no signs of racism in it at all. There is one black character, who could be right out of the pages of an X-Files script. He’s treated with respect.
Like you, I don’t know Tim Rickard, and I don’t know what’s in his mind and heart. Until he comes and leaves a post here, neither one of us will know exactly what he meant. Given the political climate, a better choice probably would have been ‘Robots vs. Sandworms’ or something. Yes, I know that racism exists. For the record, I was overjoyed when Obama won, and I am so proud of America for taken this major step forward.
