Brevity is not only the soul of wit, it's also not your normal comics fare. In the hands of Dan, it is sharply intelligent, amusingly idiosyncratic and often uproariously funny.

That’s a long john … the cop is dreaming that he can retire, float on a long john in coffee and still look slender…

Aha… someplace I lived when I was growing up…
for military brats, it’s hard to remember where you picked up which slang,
but I’m thinking probably Madison, Wisconsin, where I went to high school….
a long rectangular doughnut was called a “float.”
It was late enough in my upbringing that, as an adult, I still called it a float…
until I realised nobody knew what I meant.
Other places it was called a longjohn… here in California it’s a bar.
But maybe Dan is from Wisconsin…

I grew up in Southern CA and our local donut shop called it a longjohn. But I had never heard of float. Thanks SS.

Longjohn and float, never heard of either names before for a pastry, learn something new everyday.

I’ve been in WI my whole life. No matter what we call them they are all a part of the “donut” family. Ya know , cops = donuts.I have 2 kids, 2 nephews and 1 cousin that are cops and they ALL hate the reference! [:-) I tell them to just blow it off.
