That’s pretty much how the converstion went when we got married in October of ’87 and I was working for the last place (and soon to be World Champion) Minnesota Twins!
I was stripping old wallpaper off one of our walls and I found a “patch” of newspaper someone had put on in 1947. The headline said “Cubs won’t win the World Series this year”.
It takes a certain resilient equanimity, a deeper wisdom, and a high degree of spiritual purity to be a Cubs fan. That groom-to-be is sadly lacking in these qualities, else he wouldn’t have laughed along with his twit fiancée. And why does he have a big ‘C’ on the back of his cap?
Well, I guess you’ve gotta print the insignia on the back of the cap since a lot of today’s fans wear their caps backward. After all, you have to advertise your team, even if it’s idiots that wear the gear.
