June Brigman and Mary Schmich’s classic soap-opera strip was a pioneer: a comic featuring a strong female lead character. Brenda Starr’s adventures, if not a realistic portrayal of a reporter’s life, have nevertheless captured the imagination of millions of readers.

Wait a minute. Brenda’s a pro, she’s been in situations like this before, and she lets Mom get close enough to knock her gun away? She must be studying police procedures at the Dick Tracy Correspondence School…

Brenda’s on their left, Caressa rifle on a sling far right over her back, sling is gone. Caressa rifle off her back on Brenda’s left, knocking Brenda’s rifle (sling gone too) away and sling is back on rifle???????????

HankF - I get the penguin every now and then, too.
Try hitting refresh, usually works for me.
Might have to do it more than once.

The two brothers stand there like statues. Alot of help they are. A couple of wimps.
drewhollan: I said a few days ago that the one drawing this strip was being paid peanuts and that it was a very low budget comic. After all, if you can cut your expenses there is more money for you.

Carina is finally realizing how bad mama is!

In the 1st Panel, Brenda is holding Ganesh’s rifle in her right hand while standing at the end of the tiger’s tail while Caressa is at the tiger’s head with her rifle is behind her back with the sling over her right shoulder. It looks like there is more than 10 feet between the 2 women.
But, in panel 2, they are very close together and Caressa knocks the gun out of Brenda’s HANDS and the rifle goes over Brenda’s left shoulder.
When I was in the US Army and in Basic Infantry Training, we were told not to call a rifle a “gun.”

In the 1st and 3rd panels, Caressa’s rifle has a sling attached; but, in the 2nd one, there is not only a missing sling, even the gun’s attachments for one is missing, too.
The rifle which Brenda is carrying is missing a sling in the 2nd panel, too.

I doubt Caressa served in the US Military.

Carina, you little dope, haven’t you figured out that your mother is a damned LIAR?
Tomorrow, I hope to see that b!tch take one right in the back!

Who hinted that Caressa served in the US Military?
Not yours truly!

This is where Pug will make an appearance and a distraction that will allow Brenda and the Boys to get the upper hand.

I say Carina was in the US Army. She learned that move in the US Army Drill Team. In panel 1.5 Carina just got done saying ‘Look, over there! A flying squirrel!’ And Brenda asks, “Where?” Then in panel 2 Carina gives her the ole drill team rope a dope trick and disarms our gal reporter. Works every time.

Since when did the US Army induct 9-year old girls from India????

I think the guy in the ropes will get himself unroped and will come to everyone’s aide - cute guys always come out first in the funnies

People are confused here. The mother is Caressa and her daughter is Carina.
