June Brigman and Mary Schmich’s classic soap-opera strip was a pioneer: a comic featuring a strong female lead character. Brenda Starr’s adventures, if not a realistic portrayal of a reporter’s life, have nevertheless captured the imagination of millions of readers.

But, Carina could have said in the note to Amma exactly where she was going without mentioning Brenda.
Didn’t she plan to go to see her mother, Caressa, before Brenda demanded that she go with her to her mother’s?
They are in the gardener’s shed.
That is NOT a shovel. It’s a spade.
Spades are used for digging and shovels are used for scooping what is loose.
When I lived on the farm, I used a spade in the garden and to dig holes to plant things. I used a shovel in the barns and in the lots.

Isn’t Basil still riding a horse somewhere nearby in Kazookistan? Maybe he’ll ride in and save the day!

Yeah, that spade looks suspicious. At least it’s not a hoe; we’d be looking at a Brenda-Meets-Pibgorn crossover…
