June Brigman and Mary Schmich’s classic soap-opera strip was a pioneer: a comic featuring a strong female lead character. Brenda Starr’s adventures, if not a realistic portrayal of a reporter’s life, have nevertheless captured the imagination of millions of readers.

The Island of Dr. Moreau?

Pug now looks like a pudgy version of the little urchin, whose face was always smudged with dirt, or cuts all over her face.

Maybe the Island of Misfit Toys?

Whoever said the goodies in the picnic basket are drugged may be on to something…
basilfan said, 4 months ago
Proved my theory right, when Pug showed up and Brenda and Basil was arriving at the island. I made the comment that Pug probably just escaped off the island in the middle of nowhere.
basilfan said, 4 months ago
Hope Pug knows how to get in touch with the fisherman so she knows how to locate the island when they try to find Brenda.

Like to see Brenda in castaway attire after she spends a month on the island eating exotic fruit to stay alive; she will, as always, survive even if she has to hide in the dreaded caves to do it.

How will the urchin help out?

“When you awoke?” Did you fall asleep? Were you knocked out? Were you drugged?
What happened before you lost consciousness? Where were you then? Can you estimate how long you were out?”

Yeah, Jogger2, you would think reporters would ask and answer those sorts of questions. I think most reporters , anymore, just attach their names to PR handouts and call the handouts their own reporting.

A mystery to me,I say.

It’s Sunday and the rest of the comics are posted. So - WHERE is Brenda?
basilfan said, 3 months ago
The writers are also stuck in a cave. I think we have to wait until Pug wakes up and recovers from her experience.

Found a fisherman sure sounds fishy; maybe Pug was sent back to throw everyone off track. Meanwhile, be careful of the picnic basket Brenda – it might contain a poison apple.

Pug arrives at the newspaper, and announces someone tried to kill her. Then, before anyone can get information from her, she declares she needs a nap. Why didn’t she go to her apartment, then?
I hope this is not going to be another case where there are no updates for a week or so.
woodworker318 said, 3 months ago
The only one that doesn’t seem concerned about Pug or what happened to her is her boss. Do you think he could be the killer?

So - still NO Brenda on Monday. I wonder what is going on!
Bill Weinberg said, 3 months ago
HELLO?!?!? WHERE IS BRENDA?!?!?!
Why do they always do this on a cliffhanger? And why always Brenda? I call discrimination!

I didn’t see Sundays Brenda or today.. wonder if the convention in San Diego has something to do with it?
It’s really disappointing that they can’t get it together..
Tenn. Charlie you’re being so polite.
I’m annoyed.. but hooked now.. if I could find a paper that printed BS comic I would subscribe.
woodworker318 said, 3 months ago
Go to this link and you can see todays strip. She’s still alive and having a picnic lunch listening to Taj’s life story. Brenda does that to men.
