June Brigman and Mary Schmich’s classic soap-opera strip was a pioneer: a comic featuring a strong female lead character. Brenda Starr’s adventures, if not a realistic portrayal of a reporter’s life, have nevertheless captured the imagination of millions of readers.

If you’re too old to risk your life for journalism, do you have a substantial 401K? You’ve got no career as a starlet in India so you better think of a plan B.

She should have opted for the caves then the early signs of cellulite would not be as noticable.

I used to love Brenda Starr. She was beautiful, had great fashion and exciting stories. Now the story crawls along, she looks common and the stars in her eyes have turned to crowsfeet under her eyes. Where ever did the cartoonist get the idea that chicken feet under her eyes was attractive”?
Now after 3 decades of going without her due to a city move, I was thrilled to see that I could get it online. I’ve tried to get “into it” but it seems it is no longer worth while reading. She’s lost her glamor and the story line moves so slowly it’s boring. Most of all it breaks my heart that Brenda looks so plain.
Dale Messick, her creator, couldn’t even recognize her. It must have broken her heart to see what Brenda has been reduced to.
I am wondering if anyone could tell me what happened to Brenda’s little girl and Basil St. John ?
I have been away since the late 70s. Thanks

Agnes, you just missed an episode with Basil. He is still searching for the orchids and running from commitment.
I believe that Brenda is estranged from Starr Twinkle, but she shows up once in a great while.

Is Starr Twinkle alive? I thought she disappeared in a plane crash in a Central American jungle about 60 years ago in which only Basil survived.

Brenda still looks good to me, but then I’m not getting any younger myself.
