June Brigman and Mary Schmich’s classic soap-opera strip was a pioneer: a comic featuring a strong female lead character. Brenda Starr’s adventures, if not a realistic portrayal of a reporter’s life, have nevertheless captured the imagination of millions of readers.

Maybe she was “tied up” for a bit?

“Yow!”? Brenda said “Yow!”? Homage to Zippy, mayhap?

Vote: She also says, “Yikes.”
She also says, “What does this have to do with my audition?”
Brenda, this IS your audition.

“What does this have to do with my audition?”
She asks naively.
Glad Pug is alive.

Every starlet knows a private trip is an audition.

Pug seems to be safe and sound. I wonder how she feels about her co-workers not finding her? Hey its a comic strip, anyone can say just about anything and what they can’t say %&#&# get to be inserted.

As a “starlet “Brenda seems to have forgotten about the “casting couch”, only in this case it’s the caves on a island and no cell phone reception. Notice how he pointed that out to her.

Be careful Brenda, remember what happened to the Gal in the Zane G. western novel – she was a naked captive in the cave.

Pug’s been stuck on this island. This Taj Khan fellah has been bringing the reporters to his island and then hunting them for sport. Pug’s the first one to actually escape. She made a raft out of her own chest hair and was towed to freedom by sea turtles. Now it’s Brenda’s turn. Since Taj Khan has killed all the sea turtles Brenda will have to find her own way back. Maybe there is a cache of rum?

An western woman takes an ill-fated sojourn into mysterious caves accompanied by an Indian guide … this is being cribbed from “A Passage to India.”
