June Brigman and Mary Schmich’s classic soap-opera strip was a pioneer: a comic featuring a strong female lead character. Brenda Starr’s adventures, if not a realistic portrayal of a reporter’s life, have nevertheless captured the imagination of millions of readers.

Aha, someone has taken the bait, as we wait with baited breath to see who it is…

Personaly, if you have “baited breath” maybe you should try a tic-tac.

That kinda looks like a lava lamp Brenda’s holding.

June Brigman and Mary Schmich get better every day. They perfectly blend the soap opera with the adventure to keep this comic vibrant, moving and alive.

In Sunday’s strip, Taj asks “Who is that?” but recognizes Lakshmi and greets her by name.

We better wait until tomorrow to see if it is Taj or someone else.

Maybe Ringo returns, with more poetic verses for our red haired heroine.

I’m warming up to the artwork on this; it has kind of a Cockrumesque feel to it, though the radiant energy pouring from her eyes tends to either resemble crow’s feet or to make her look like some sort of Star Trek alien. And I don’t know about that fetus or whatever it is floating in her beverage. Brenda is quite fetching in a sari, though!

That baited breath crack sounded fishy to me.

o/w get ahold of your self, brenda. you been trading on your beauty for 70 years to get stories. use some of your famous charm

If, as I recall, Brenda was in her 20s in the early strips (1940s), then she is now about 90…or ageless.

Is a sari supposed to be worn on one shoulder only? It looks like her bra is showing. Oh, well. That’s more modest than a lot of what U.S. is wearing now.
