June Brigman and Mary Schmich’s classic soap-opera strip was a pioneer: a comic featuring a strong female lead character. Brenda Starr’s adventures, if not a realistic portrayal of a reporter’s life, have nevertheless captured the imagination of millions of readers.

And now Brenda is going to out-starlet the starlet. She can’t stand it when someone other than her gets all the attention.

What do you know? Brenda’s rival could be another reporter from the USA, working for NPR:

I know this comic reuses a lot of its panels, but I have to admit, panel 3 is one of my favorite Brenda looks. It’s the epitome of who she is: sexy, wise, cynical, and not gonna let the circumstance stand in her way for long.
