June Brigman and Mary Schmich’s classic soap-opera strip was a pioneer: a comic featuring a strong female lead character. Brenda Starr’s adventures, if not a realistic portrayal of a reporter’s life, have nevertheless captured the imagination of millions of readers.

As soon as the “pop=ups” stop ,I can get a word in. SHEEESH!If Brenda goes after Ringo, she’ll be SOOORRYY!!! But that’s just an educated guess.

Subtorp401 try “NoScript” or “AdBlock+”. Keeps the riff raff manageable and I’m told that you load faster, like whiskey over beer, because adds are excluded. With “NoScript” you have to allow each new site that it hasn’t been to before, either “temporarily allow” or “allow” [name of site]. Workin’ good for me so far, after about 3 or 4 weeks of use. The “options” box in the lower right corner (NoScript) gives you choices for the page/site. Your usual places that you allowed will always come up without additional input on your part. Free download. I’m using it with Firefox.

I had my computer custom made by a friend. It came with AdBlock+. I haven’t seen an ad on this site since I got it.

I originally had AdBlock+ per inshadowz recommendation. Someone, I forgot who, in one of these other strips, recommended “NoScript” So I thought; maybe together they will make the system invincible. Once I installed the Script I haven’t seen hide nor hair of the “Block”, not even with a ‘Programs’ search. I can’t recall what I saw now but when I first installed “NoScript” I got a Firefox screen that from the looks of it, was somehow intertwined to the “NoScript” program.

I use Firefox and I don’t have a pop up problem. I went to “tools” then “options” and clicked block pop up windows. Other browsers don’t have that feature?

June and Mary - Looking at today’s comments , I think that we are all about ready for a new Brenda adventure . There is only some much inaneness that can be tolerated .

I used to noticed a pattern to the Brenda Starr storylines. They would always have two storylines a year (almost 6 months worth of storyline)… but this one seems to be going on WAY TOO LONG! With so much confusion going on, I’m thinking that maybe good ol June and Mary may have forgotten the whole plot to begin with! LOL.

I only block popups. It seems unfair to block in-page ads when I’m not a subscriber. Unfortunately, all the ads on the pages have been for the exact same “nueva bulimia” product (“colon cleanser” for weight loss = new bulimia) for the past few weeks. It’s kind of like on radio - the ads are only really annoying when the same ad runs over and over and over and over …

Funny you should say that Stuart Gathman. The repetition of certain ads might be a subtle message from the syndicate to some of the authors to get the story “moving”. Part of the idea to ad blocking, even for us freebies, is that by them not loading up in the first place the page can be up a little faster, multiplied by the number of times that we turn comics pages…
