Now that I can see it in color, I really like Basil’s cape.

In fact, I think Basil is very color coordinated in these frames. But I don’t know why they are both wearing capes in the first place. There’s always the chance that the folds of the capes could fly up in their faces when they rode and they wouldn’t be able to see where they were going.

    Ah, there it is!

    This strip is rocking!!!

The Sunday comics don’t get any better than this!

I would presume that they are wearing capes because they are riding across the desert. In the Desert - no matter how hot it gets during the day - as soon as the sun goes does - it gets pretty chilly. The reason is because there is usually not enough moisture to hang on to the heat of the day. I know. I used to live in New Mexico. Even where I live now - in Colorado - no matter how hot it gets during the day in the summer time - as soon as the sun goes does - it gets pretty chilly. I have lived in a number of Western states and have NEVER felt the need to have air conditioning because it cools off so quickly every evening.

They are wearing capes because capes look cool when you’re galloping across a desert on a horse.

Basil, your son is being held hostage and you want to be a tour guide to your ex-wife [who you tried to do (and maybe succeeded) the night before–in a hovel no less]. Jeez! No wonder Ms. Starr is miffed.

Brenda is wearing a scarf. You have to have a scarf in the desert plus it is the female version of the cape in trying to look cool. The scarf you put over your face to keep blowing sand out of your mouth. The horse sees where he is going.
Basil wears the cape to look cool.

The scene in the fourth panel is clearly inspired by the Bamiyan Buddhas that the Taliban destroyed in Afghanistan. Although the figure looks more Persian or Mesopotamian than Greco-Buddhist. Perhaps supposed to be the Zoroastrian deity Ahura Mazda.

Isadora Duncan says don’t wear scarves while driving, and as E said no capes. do you remember thunderhead? stratogale? meta-man? Dynaguy? splashdown? No Capes!

Brenda certainly likes to live on the edge (panel 3). Her horse’s front right hoof…

Is no one else aware of this city? It’s a few hours’ ride from civilization.
The last panel is great. Not one of her usual closing bromides. Brenda has a pair, and I don’t mean the above-the-waist kind.
My wife would call that cape color “aubergine” I think.
We’re very successful at growing eggplant. Sadly.

That cape is definitely magenta, worn with an olive green shirt.

    You’re welcome, margueritem.
Since the instructions are not relevant to the story, and are a bit long, I’ll take them down.

Kingrat, did Isadora Duncan really say that? Cuz she was KILLED when her scarf was entangled on the wheel of a moving car, snapping her neck.
BTW, in the last panel Basil bears a striking resemblance to a young Jack Palance.

Margueritem: Fabulous. Worth giving up the turkeys for.

Dypak: 42 says it all. Hitchhiker’s Guide fan?

But ‘tis November, so I must go back to the turkeys.

    Ray,
It’s not our fault they asked the wrong question.

In that case, I won’t panic.

The scarf and cape not only look “cool”, but it makes it easier for the artist to create what our eyes will interpret as movement or wind.

susan001: You are right! I just noticed.

    Ray,
If you know where your towel is there is never any reason to panic, now is there?

    Susan001 says:
Kingrat, did Isadora Duncan really say that?

If she did say that it was posthumously.

also the no capes was paraphrased from The Incredibles.

  26. Dypak

DypakGenius_badge said, about 1 year ago

Actually what Isidora Duncan said was, “Gaak, akk, glug!” while wlidly clutching her throat. Brenda is probably safe from her scarf as long as she remains riding on a horse.

Jogger 2, I messed around with paint for a while, and finally figured out how to do it myself.
