June Brigman and Mary Schmich’s classic soap-opera strip was a pioneer: a comic featuring a strong female lead character. Brenda Starr’s adventures, if not a realistic portrayal of a reporter’s life, have nevertheless captured the imagination of millions of readers.

They didn’t take the shovel bait, thank goodness! (Tho the shovel will have a further plot role, rest assured.)
Now I hope Sage doesn’t get ‘em into trouble with some wacky idea.
Note the feminist politics here. Miella is the take-charge hero and Sage is slightly out of control. The same role Brenda is playing with Basil.

What is Sage’s “better idea”??

Remembering the old Brenda, I rather like the new feminist angle

You mean the Dale Messick-era Brenda? There’s no comparison. With all due respect to Brenda’s creator, Schmich & Brigman have vastly improved it.

I think Sage wants to go back to where Basil found him.

Well.Hopefully Basil,Brenda, and Sage meet up.Though its pretty risky.Maybe Miella can take Sage back to her village for more help.redgrl7

On that small donkey or pony or whatever with two, they won’t be able to get there very quickly. And one wonders if that animal can handle the distance, carrying the two of them.
I can imagine them almost making it – Brenda and Basil see them, and racing toward them from one direction while Trad and Aurora, using motorized transport, close in from another.

Are you people crazy?? to say that these two have improved Brenda over Dale Messick’s Brenda. that’s ridiculous.

I’m with you 100%, Bill. The new strip rocks. Dale got very sappy towards the end.
