    And some of the others (white pumpkins) will wind up in southern Delaware the weekend after Halloween in the great “Punkin’ Chunkin’” competition. Everything from trebuchets (catapults) to air cannons will try to propel pumpkins as far as can be done. The current world record is just under a mile.

    @AshburnStadium

    To be precise, the record is 4483.51 feet, which is 0.85 mile, or nearly 7/8 of a mile, set in 2008 by Young Glory III, an air cannon.

    I think when everyone turns their backs, the great pumpkin is gonna make lunch of the rest of those little pumpkins. ;-)

    That’s the fate of small (under 12" for the Air Cannons) pumpkins.
    Large ones (900 lbs and over) get turned into boats for races and regattas at a number of locations ( Lake Champlain, between New York and Vermont, Ludwigsburg Lake in Germany, Windsor in Nova Scotia, Canada, etc)
