    @Retired Dude

    And then along came Jones
    Tall thin Jones
    Slow-walkin Jones
    Slow-talkin Jones
Along came long, lean, lanky Jones

    “You walk into the room
With your pencil in your hand
    You see somebody naked
And you say, “Who is that man ?”
    You try so hard
    But you don’t understand
    Just what you’ll say
    When you get home.

    Because something is happening here
But you don’t know what it is
    Do you, Mister Jones ?"

‘Ballad Of A Thin Man’… Bob Dylan

“…Well when I landed in Vietnam I hardly got to see Saigon. They shaped us up and called the roll and out we went on a long patrol. Swattin’ flies, swappin’ lies, firing the odd shot here and there.

Tom Paxton – Talkin’ Vietnam Potluck Blues

I confess, without shame, that I am sick and tired of fighting – its glory is all moonshine; even success the most brilliant is over dead and mangled bodies, with the anguish and lamentations of distant families, appealing to me for sons, husbands, and fathers … it is only those who have never heard a shot, never heard the shriek and groans of the wounded and lacerated … that cry aloud for more blood, more vengeance, more desolation.

    Wm Tecumseh Sherman

So, Ann Dill. How did that make you feel? I know it’s trite but it needs to be talked about ‘cause you’re going to live with survivor guilt for the rest of your life. You’ll tamp the feelings down and then BOOM. The littlest things will screw with your emotional stability until you can tamp them down again.

Interestingly, shrapnel is named after Henry Shrapnel, a British officer who developed the first actual “shrapnel” type shell, which obviously came to be named for him.

I don’t think there’s anywhere to put an extra person on an Apache. It’s a gunship not a transport.

And if the medevac chopper can’t land, the Apache should be gunning for the bad guys.

There is, however, room on a Cobra.
    []
A few years back I read an autobiography written by one of the first Cobra pilots in Vietnam. I want to say that the title was “Maverick”.
    []
The guy found out that, if the ammo bin for the machine gun was dry, a couple of people could actually squeeze up in there. He actually had to make use of this on at least one occasion in order to help evacuate soldiers.
