    They went as friends, not as a date. That’s how she presented it to him. It’s appropriate they split the tab.

    Mark wants it to be a date. But I wouldn’t let him pay for me since he’s probably only making minimum wage at that coffee shop. Split the tab.

    Since his dad owns the coffee shop he probably makes better than the minimum. Also, by only reporting a quarter of his tips on his tax return…

    Just because he is working for his dad does not mean that Mark is earning anything more than an average employee in the coffee shop. Working for family very often means having to work harder than for a stranger for less money.
