    Definitely mom is. She’s a lot like my mom and I would give Jane some advice. Move out of her house and do whatever it takes to put a lot of distance between you. You don’t need her verbal abuse!

    Kidding. Children limit choices, alas.
    But I’d still make evey effort to find an alternative, no matter how unorthodox, because you don’t want to model that unhealthy relationship for your children.
