Because the NRA needed more gun sales so they pushed for “semi” automatic weapons to be sold to the public.

And because the Republicans took the bribes from the NRA to reduce the regulations to make semi-automatic rifles available to any and everyone who has the money to buy them with no restrictions. So much for our forefathers Second Amendment. I’m sure that semi-automatic rifles were not what they had in mind when they put the second amendment in the Civil Rights. A pistol… A hunting rifle.. these are what they knew and I’m sure these are what they had in mind. The NRA and Congress have bastardized the Second Amendment to turn it into a total farce.

    Now for some actual facts:

“So far, at least one has been identified as an AK-47 type rifle, outfitted with a stand to steady it and improve accuracy, said people close to the ongoing probe. Lombardo said the weapons that have been recovered range in caliber from .223, which is associated with AR-15 style rifles, and .308, which is a caliber commonly used in hunting rifles. Lombardo was unsure if any of the weapons were automatic. Scopes were also recovered on the scene, and at least one firearm was a handgun.

Agents with Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have yet to determine if Paddock modified mechanical components to a semiautomatic rifle to make it fully automatic, Lombardo said, which would be illegal. He also could have used a legal modification like an attachable crank to simulate automatic fire, which depresses the trigger faster than a finger and can be bought online for as little as $40.

It is important to note the distinction between a semiautomatic rifle and a fully automatic weapon. Semiautomatic rifles such as the AR-15 patterned rifle — owned by millions of Americans and found on the scene after mass killings at San Bernardino, Calif.; Aurora, Colo., and Newtown, Conn. — are the civilian variant of the military’s M-16 and M-4 rifles."

Lukckily I did not have to serve in the military,so I am no expert, but the sounds of gunfire in the newscasts are too rapid to be semi-automatic. Just sayin.

Well, gosh, Gorrell. I could see why you’d ask ‘why’, AS IF there is no answer.

You know G D well why.

    So does every NRA member.

Hey! Congress is making it easier to get a silencer, and even armor piercing bullets so deer can’t hide behind trees any more, they’ve aready waived regs to keep the insane in touch with heavy metal, to spice up a country western concert.

The NRA which actually defends a constitutional right and who’s members get blamed for the killings by people who are not members.

Other countries have solved much of the gun violence as a public health issue by restricting guns pretty severely. It does work pretty well when a whole country does it and not simply a state or city. Why do gun nuts “need” guns? Simple, they get a deep sense of safety and security from their weapons. This despite the evidence that shows gun ownership is dangerous in and out of f itself. Oh those pesky facts, again! Why do facts have to intervene?

Many gun nuts think they will be able to take use personal arsenal to resist the government, which is truly and completely delusional given the asymmetric number and lethality of the arms in government hands vs. private hands.

The “why” is easy in one sense. The shooter was mentally ill, and even if not diagnosed, was aided and abetted by the easy availability of his weapons. Truth hurts. But not as much as guns.

Why? We all know why by now: Because our spineless Congress and our cowardly state legislatures are slaves to the gun sellers’ lobby, so they keeep voting to put more and more guns on the street, with fewer and fewer restrictions.

Every detail of this indiscriminate mass murder seemed meticulously planned. So far, police believe Paddock acted alone – which will make the motive harder to determine. His girlfriend arrived at LAX on Tuesday night, and is being accompanied by the FBI in Los Angeles. Five handguns, two shotguns and a “plethora” of ammunition were found in Paddock’s Verdi, Nevada, property, police said. Authorities previously found 42 guns in Paddock’s hotel room and at his Mesquite, Nevada, home.

The noise of gunfire interrupted the concert, bullets ricocheted off the ground. There were bodies all over the ground. People were yelling to get down. But the violent transformation of Paddock has everyone mystified. His brother, investigators and the families he victimized. “There are no words to describe the sadness we feel for those who lost their lives in this tragic event. Please know that you are in our prayers and that our hearts are heavy for the families who have been left heartbroken and without answers.” – Paddock’s family’s response.

the massacre started at about 10 PM Sunday at the Route 91 Harvest festival. “A lot of really good people (were) holding people’s wounds shut, trying to help them while everybody was just ducked down.” – Corrine Lomas

Countless strangers have rallied to support victims, donating blood, money and supplies. Strangers donated flights, housing, food and transportation to victims’ relatives coming to Las Vegas.

    WHY?

Paddock was probably after Trump supporters.

Like the shooter who shot Steve Scalise, his security people, and tried to get the republican baseball players.Did anyone notice how the lefty news nerds did’t cover much of that story?

    “Why?”

Do any of us really want to believe that the shooter would have “reasons” that WE would feel made “sense”?

Even if the shooter hadn’t killed himself and survived to explain his so-called reasons, we would still not understand. And none of the reasons would bring back those who were killed by him, and those who survive with broken hearts. Instead of spending valuable time worrying about ‘why’, since we will never know, we need to concentrate on ways to prevent copycat actions. How could hotel personnel not notice someone bringing so many packages (containing weapons) to a hotel room? Why don’t hotels have metal detectors?
