Israel has tighter gun controls than the U.S., as does Switzerland, yet lots of people have guns.
Tigger, poor thing, unable to read and analyze again. Israel, despite “neighbor problems” has a very low homicide and suicide rate, same for Switzerland. The very POINT is that NRA is full of it, as strict REGULATIONS DO make “gun ownership” a MUCH SAFER “proposition”!
Doc: From the head of my drive, I can look over the hill at night and see the lights of a minimum security prison, less than a mile away. I don’t bother to lock my doors when going into town for the day, but do if gone for several days and my “attack dachshund” isn’t at home. I own guns, and they are locked in a gun safe most of the time.
Now the interesting thing relative to the ’toon is: Most of the prisoners in that prison are there for marijuana related crimes (most were more users than dealers) and many were convicted of “sex crimes”. Now some of those “sex crimes” are just VIEWING PORN ON A COMPUTER! Those guys will be on felony conviction “criminal” lists for the rest of their lives, and NOT be able to buy a gun because of background checks. Now, the other interesting thing is; the guys in there for armed robbery finishing out there sentences here, WILL be able to get off that “convicted” list upon release, and buy guns again!
So, thanks to “conservative fears”, a guy looking at pictures on a computer, is of course more dangerous, for life, than a guy with a MAC 10 holding up a 7/11.
Bruce: My point was that conviction for marijuana, or “sex crimes” WILL get you longer sentences than crimes committed with a firearm in most states. BTW, share a board with the Warden of that prison and last night we discussed the fact that living close as I do to it, if they DO have an escapee, or “walkaway”, I’m probably in the area LEAST LIKELY to be bothered by them, as they want to get out of the country, quickly.
Which, while the “public message” of the NRA is that criminals using guns should be locked away for a long time, their lobbying efforts over the last 20 years have actually blocked that!
