let’s see, we’ve been trying to reform healthcare for 40 years, but gadfly Gorrrell is unnerved because the President wants to consider course of action after receiving report less than a week ago? Reminder Gorrell, it was Bush 43 that fired people when they told Congress they needed a larger number of troops before invading iraq.

Remember, no matter which Republicrats are in power, they results are the same- destruction of our liberties, our money, and our lives.

Pup, reform in the healthcare system has been sidelined since before Clinton’s term. The report came a few days ago. It’s obvious enough when you view it in perspective.

Why do you keep changing names, anyway?

Way to go BCS–just as depicted a few days ago–attack cartoonists from right and praise those from the left. At least you are consistent even if misinformed. Obama said in March more focus on Afghanistan–now doesn’t know even though the commander he hand selected says more troops needed. More important to go on Letterman.

Well, you guys, it’s obvious that Republican “leadership” are really slow readers. If the toonist thinks that it’s just too scary fast, maybe it’s time to cut them a little slack for being, you know, kinda not smart. Or not good at reading.

Guess what? A lot of thought has gone into healthcare reform! What’s your plan? As Eric Cantor pointed out at a recent town hall meeting, uninsured people can get help by accessing (wait for it) existing government services and by going around to charities and churches for donations. Now that’s a healthcare plan we can get behind! That is literally his idea.

And guess what else? A lot of thought is going into the administration’s approach in Afghanistan.

Inconsistent? Not unless you are looking for an argument. Of course, the congressional repubs are sitting like spiders, waiting to diss whatever choice the president makes, even if and when it contradicts their stated positions of just a few months ago. Anything to destroy the usurper…

How many read the “Patriot Act” before it was shoved down our collective throats in a flood of panic from the press? How many asked “Who ARE the folks in Al Qaeda”? before we invaded IRAQ?? (totally losing sight of the war we started first)

Those fighting, and dying, in our wars do so to protect those at home. Health care IS about protecting those at home. So, why are the “conservatives” so ready to start wars; so reluctant to truly protect those at home?

Howie, I know you’re pulling my chain, but I’ll oblige anyway. Some toonists have tunnel vision and their commentaries are one-sided and predictable. Gorrell, McCoy and Ramirez come to mind. An effective editorial cartoon has to have an element of truth in it, even if the reader disagrees with the commentary.

Here Gorrell takes the truth and turns it upside down. Healthcare reform has been under discussion for decades, and the ‘let’s take more time to study’ approach always kills it in place. It’s been what, about a week, since the military presented their report on Afghanistan?

Gorrell reverses the facts of the two issues. The only point Gorrell is making with his commentary is to criticize Obama for taking any time at all to develop a strategy for the region.

We’ve been through failed strategies in the region that were developed by a tiny inner core of people (think Feith, Wolfowitz, Bremer, right wing think tank academics who knew not one little thing about the military or how to implement a war plan or an occupation plan). Rumsfeld cut off all thoughtful and divergent input into his plans.

We need exactly the opposite of cowboy strategies and thank goodness this president is taking the time to try to do it right and not just fast.

bcs, Amen. We need to sit down and figure out what we’re doing in Afghanistan and what we need to do to get out of there in the appropriate fashion. With as little loss of life as possible. Cavalier charging around like a bull in a china shop hasn’t served us well.

Wait BCS–Obama has passed two “By dates” on passing his healthcare “plan.” No one even knows what the entire bill is like but he wants it passed a month ago. I do not htink Gorrel has turned it upside down at all. I’ll agree McCoy can go to the extreme, but the other two from the right are not misleading. What you say about the three you mention can also be said for Sherffius, Sack and Bennett. Also I do not mind being confronted with the truth–just don’t see much of it with UCLICK posts.

Howie let’s put it this way:

Healthcare Reform - 40 years total, 9 months with process starting even before election

Iraq/Afghanistatn - 6 years total, one week since report on more may be needed (and no request from top CJOS has even been received yet)

now, which one of those is taking a long time? Gorrell turned the facts upside down.

Republican leaders don’t want healthcare reform. If they did, they’d be engaged. They aren’t. Grassley could not make it any clearer, time after time.

It wouldn’t matter if months of additional debate took place. The debate consists ONLY of republicans starting fires by declaring socialist conspiracy, death panels, the death of the very republic, and democrats defending such idiotic lies.

This is not an adult, good-faith dialogue. If republicans are saying that universal healthcare is so dangerous, they need to come up with something. The current system only works in a corporate profit sense. It doesn’t work for Americans. Somehow the republicans have worked up enough fear and rabid hate in a vocal minority that that minority actually fears the change that will, in fact, help American citizens and not simply favor corporate super-citizens. It boggles the mind, but you can’t call it serving the people.

When republican leaders stop undermining American policy (Inhofe’s UN “truth squad”, Palin’s China speech, Cantor’s Asian speech) at the expense of actually doing their job for Americans, they can sit with dems and work together.

    Until then, stfu.
