aw mang, i really appreciate this post on another forum:

    “Paul Austin, Texas

    July 24th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

My guess is that no one really listens to anything.

President Obama started out saying he did not have all the facts.

What did people not understand about that statement.

He also said he knew the man and considered him his friend and his statement would reflect as such.

So no he did not make a mistake with his statement. He also has the right like anyone else to state what he thinks frankly about any issue.”

Our President didn’t make a mistake.

Its different when you are the President of the United States. Put yourself in that officer’s shoes. Imagine if that remark was made about what you did – on national television! You’d be furious!

Obama made a big mistake…a common mistake made by all humans. After he admitted he did not have the facts he continued to talk about something that he knew little to nothing about.

He should have stopped after he said he didn’t have the facts.

As the President of the United States, what he says has a very different effect than when an average citizen says something, especially if it is broadcast on national television.

Words have the ability to get people in trouble faster than even actions can. Apparently President Obama hasn’t learned this very important lesson.

Erm, ANandy, he did just that:

    Regarding the Cambridge police incident:
(sorry, don’t know the source very well but it does state it is originally from the AFP)
    http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNews/World/Story/STIStory_407819.html

    And previously:
(from a source you’d probably accept)
“Obama Admits ‘Mistake’ in Handling of Daschle Nomination”
    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/first100days/2009/02/03/obama-admits-mistake-handling-daschle-nomination/

And from a source I normally read:

ANandy, you’re gonna have to let this one go, although it will be tough for you.

Prof Gates popped off in an ill-tempered, loudmouth way.

The cop got miffed and arrested him for no good reason.

President Obama didn’t bring the subject up; he was asked a question by a reporter who thought the race issue was a good use of his question time.

The president replied in a temperate manner, except for the “stupidly” statement. Of course, this is chum for media sharks!

The president has admitted his “stupidly” remark has inflamed the situation. He has invited both the police officer and the professor to the white house for a beer, and both have accepted.

The president has stated that he hopes this results in a “teachable” moment for our nation on the subject of race.

Now tell us how you will manufacture smug outrage at this situation that has been handled reasonably by adults.

Anandy, will you take back your misspelled “mumms the word” conclusion?

ANandy, Pres Obama is respected over seas because of the man he is and hes has brought new resprct for the US as well.. Your hero W was considered a bungling jackass who couldn’t control his VP, or much else for that matter. When W was in, the office of president was resprcted in difference to the US not the individual. Crawl out of your stump hole and see a little of the world .

    parker,

Why is he backpedaling faster than a speeding bullet?
He admits he used poor judgment. Yes, Gates is his Friend. This Is how any Normal Thinking Man would have answered had they been in similar situation:

Yes, I am, aware of this incident. Mr. Gates is a Friend of mine. I refuse to comment on this matter until I have all the Facts.

The ironic twist to this plot, Officer Crowley’s Partner Happens to be Black, Officer Lashley who witnessed what transpired said the Arrest was Justified because Mr. Gates refused to cooperate with the Officers.

Sadly, Obama had to play the Race Card before the Country when he lacked all the facts. Obama overloaded his Shout Gun Mouth and now he’s paying the price. I Sincerely hope that both Officer Crowley and Professor respectfully decline to meet with our apparent Race Baiting President. So it seems to be with his horrible wrong response to this question.

first, light, sorry - a little chauvinism goes a long way - what i meant was he’s our president, not your president

tks tig - actually he’s not backing up, he’s invited the two to the white house. that’s really smart, because all errors in judgment, the policeman’s, the professor’s and the president’s will be resolved in congenial privacy and it won’t be our business anymore.

unless that violates your expectation of transparency.

Things happen if no one is manning the teleprompter.

The Europeans and the rest of the World love 0bama like a rock star. Respect, not so much - witness 0 cooperation on all fronts. In fact he was unceremoniously rebuffed - on all fronts.

Yes, W was disliked and ridiculed by much of the populace, but he got a lot more cooperation from World governments - on all fronts.

wow–slam Bush even over King Baroke’s biased comments.

Just think what you could do if Bush, instead of Obama

    • made a joke at the expense of Special Olympics.

    • gave Queen Elizabeth an iPod of his speeches.

    • gave Gordon Brown a set of incorrectly formatted DVDs.

    • made reference to the nonexistent “Austrian language.”

    • referred to Cinco de Cuatro instead of Cuatro de Mayo

    • failed to send relief to Midwest flood victims (more killed and homeless than New Orleans with Katrina)

    • fired a CEO of a major corporation.

    • doubled the national debt in one year and then roposed to double it again within 10 years.

    • reduced your retirement plans holdings of GM stock by 90% and given unions a majority stake in GM.

    • filled his cabinet with those that could not keep current on taxes.

    • burned 9,000 gallons of fuel to plant a single tree for Earth Day.

petergrt - what cooperation from world governments for Bush? We had to pay almost everyone who “supported” the Iraq invasion, save the UK and Australia, and that became so unpopular in their own countries that Prime Minister Tony Blair became known as “Bush’s Poodle.”

@Petergrt - actually, I think people outside of the US respect Obama as a politician much more than they did Bush. Bush was respected as the President of the US, but personally pretty much anyone considered him a joke. Obama… well, let’s just say so far people take him more seriously. However, the image of the US itself - and its position - has deteriorated significantly, and that hampers him.

Asking for troops in Iraq or Afghanistan in 2002/3 is one thing, in 2009 it is something different entirely. In between a world economic crisis and wide displeasure with the policies Obama inherited, personal charisma will only carry him so far.

4uk4ata: It is not just the support for the wars. His economic programs are openly shunned and ridiculed in press. A headline in a major Prague newspaper, following 0bama’s speech here (I am now in Prague) read: Naive President …

Anyway, I don’t give a hoot, and neither should any American, about what Europeans think about the US, for they were on the wrong side of history for at least the last few hundred years, so I am not at all surprised with their obsession, however superficial, with the community organizer.
