Not exactly, Republican-neo con-ultra right wing ideology defeated the GOP.

In the comic section “Dick Tracy” arrests Joe The Plumber, “Smilin’ Jack” flies Sarah Palin back to Alaska and “Mary Worth” offers advice to John McCain.

bell3rose1a - agreed. It’s about time for the Republicans to take back their party from the fundamentalist, anti-science, anti-intellectual, crusading deficit spenders! If it were still the party of TR, I’d probably have been Republican.

motive i couldnt agree more.however it needs to really go back to the origins. James Madison

conservatism? … is that like what a person would use to make jelly?

Maybe the GOP doesn’t know the true meaning of the word “conservatism”… they didn’t know the meaning of “maverick”.
gbrucewilson said, about 1 year ago
I think the new name for the GOP should be Democrats-Lite. Why would anyone buy the low-cal version when they can buy the real thing? I have been a person without a party for 8 years now. It may be too late for conservatives. Soon, the non-taxpayers will outnumber the taxpayers and there is no return from that point. When that happens, we should just name this country France-Lite.

gbrucewilson Not the dreaded ‘S’ word?
You mean like Social Security, Medicare?, WALL STREET?, Ford motors?, GMC?,Chrysler?, The whole government health care system?, Your local police force and Fire Department? And the biggest user of the peoples money, the Armed Forces?
Just asking.

social security is a disaster. do you honestly know any one who says “oh i don’t need a 401k,IRA,profit sharing, etc. I’ve got social security that’ll see me through” a good idea on paper, doesn’t work in reality. wall street and the auto industry should have been left to the free market so those bloated corp. could be chewed up by the piranha smaller corp. that’s what is supposed to happen. only the strong survive in business

vicarious… looks like there’s been a few saving and retirement accounts chewed up by the “strong” in business.

vicar,
you, are only 30, there is a lot of learning about reality, to be put on your plate, in the years between 30 and when your reality sets in.
BTW, vic: “oh i don’t need a 401k,IRA,profit sharing,etc. I’ve got social security that’ll see me through”
Right now one H@ll of a lot of them wish they had kept their 401ks, and IRAs in FDIC protected accounts, or Gold. They are all d@mn glad there is at least SOC. SEC. to cover their Azzez. SWITCH SS TO THE STOCK MARKET? No thanks, Conservatives.
vicariousviper said, about 1 year ago
all i am saying about social security is that you are forced into it. i should have the choice as to do what with my hard earned dollar. instead they take it to hold in trust until i come to beg for it,while it is gaining no value or even an inflation adjustment, then tax it before letting me have it. it could have been invested by me in precious metals and seen a profit. “i like responsibility let me take care of me,Uncle Sam”

So the most current time you can think of when France help the USA was over 200 years ago? Other than that little Hitler thing we have not helped them, I guess. Get real! NOBODY helps the USA. WE help everyone else. This is the greatest nation in the world. Was, is and always will be (if you libs don’t turn us into France or worse). The problem is our educational system doesn’t teach about the uniqueness of our country and the millions who have followed our lead into freedom and opportunity for all. That didn’t exist before 1776. Anywhere! The “blame America” crowd makes me sick.

gbw - suggest you check out Lies My Teacher Told Me by James W. Loewen. Our schools (or at least our textbooks) tend to teach exceptionalism above all else. I am proud of my country, but you don’t get to be “greatest country in the world” by coasting on your past reputation (and my part-Cherokee wife might have a criticism of that!). You must live up to your standards and ideals. The Bush Administration has corrupted that by their approval of torture, lies, and wars for the benefit of Halliburton.

Vic,says:
“it could have been invested by me in precious metals and seen a profit. “i like responsibility let me take care of me,Uncle Sam”
So you would have invested in P.Metals? Your house is Made of P. Metals? That would have been where your Security dollars would have gone, at your age of 20. That is by your own time line stated above. Up until 3 yrs ago P. Metals were as stagnant as GWBs swimming pool. Note, your investment in Real Estate is in the dumper. You will go crying to the U.S. Government to get your food stamps. A short piece of REALITY. You would have garnered no profit on your Gold, or you would not have a house.

Motive, My wife is also part Cherokee (card carrying), as are my kids and grandkids. They all think this is the greatest country in the world. My wife’s grandmother came to Okla on the trail of tears and she also thought this was a great country.
