If I remember correctly, this was a spoof of Dan Quayle’s service in the Indiana National Guard. At the time, a b&w photograph circulated with him striking a similar pose on an automobile.

You gotta be tough to be a Moose Mountie. You have any idea how hard it is to put a saddle on a moose?

Seems to me that denigrating one’s service in the Texas Air National Guard or the Indiana National Guard or even the Moose Mounties is denigrating the service of EVERYONE who served in those organizations. Everyone in the National Guard (and the reservists of each branch of the military) were subject to being called up for service and many were killed and wounded in combat in the service of our country.

It is my un-educated opinion that anyone who serves in any part of the National Guard is not supposed to leave the country while on duty or as part of their duty.

“National Guard” = “Guarding the Nation”
They got no business being outside the country risking their lives.

Reservists, on the other hand, have promised to fulfill their "I swear or affirm … " promise when called to active duty, the same as I did when joining the active duty U.S.A.F.
(retired now, thank the Good Lord!!!!!)

    Yea! Only here, not there.
Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard CO came to work one day. Where’s all the workers?
The US Army called up the Hawaii National Guard. For Active Service in VietNam.
85% of the Shipyard workers were in the Guard. And had been flown to VietNam over the weekend.
No one had told the US Navy.

Very hard :-) You have to use a step stool to get the saddle on the moose :-) Dismounting is also hard unless you take the step stool with you :-)
