    Leapin’ Lenin! This explains quite a lot, actually! But I wish those dispatchers would route these things correctly!

    A commie cowboy? Andropov was Secretary General for only a little over a year, before Gorbachev. Considering his short term, he may have been as much of a nightmare for the KGB as for Reagan. The KGB made quick work of their nightmares.

    Yea, but at the time, we didnt think he would be so short lived as a nightmare.

    At the same time the former head of the KGB was the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (i.e., leader), the former head of the CIA was vice-president of the United States.

    Yes the original “Evil Empire” was at maximum over stretch and crumbling from within when Reagan “beat them.”

    Imagine what would pop out of the closet now? Enough to make 12/12/12 seem positive pleasant by comparison. Give the entire Liberal community a heart attach if they saw their future.

    Andropov was the first of two stiffs who served in that position between Brezhnev and Gorbachev. Chernenko was the other.

    @Horst Hrubbisch

    Brezhnev’s health and mind were gone in the last years of his ‘administration’. The appointments of Andropov and Chernenko were ‘pay back’ for years of loyalty to the Communist Party. It was pretty much obvious to Moscow watchers that as soon as the walking dead of the old guard passed on, the USSR was going to crumble, given that the next generation of leaders (Gorbachev was one of these) was going to dismantle the Soviet Union…
    This was years before Reagan was elected POTUSA
