   Glazed beets actually sounds pretty good, but then again a 63 cent phone bill sounds even better.

   Several years ago I got a bill from our Ma Bell break away for only 10 cents. I wasn’t about to write a check for 10 cents, so I ignored it and figured I’d pay it with next month’s bill. A couple weeks later I got a notice in the mail that my bill was overdue and my service would be cut if I didn’t pay the bill. I couldn’t believe they’d cut my service for only 10 cents, so I called and questioned them on the matter. They were serious. So I had to write a check for 10 cents to keep my service from being cut. I’m still shaking my head over that one.

   My fav – the IRS dunned me for a missed quarterly payment. I provided them a canceled check showing payment, they said “not good enough – you have to show us we applied that check to your account.” My response: “So sue me – there isn’t a court in the land that won’t accept a canceled check as proof I paid, where you put the money is your problem to figure out”. Eventually they dropped it, but not before several more silly letters. These bureaucracies deserve it sometimes …. just keep it legal folks! :)

   Sherlock, FYI back when Bloom county was in the dailies, the porn channel wasn’t scrambled….so I noticed in passing.
