   schmaltz is the type of early to mid fifties pop music that was displaced by rock and roll. lots of harmonies and big band type horn arrangements. if you listen to the background of the movie ‘back to the future’ the type of music on the radio when marty first gets back to 1955 is pretty schmaltzy. also, if you watched WKRP in Cincinnati, they switched from schmaltz to rock in the first episode. synonyms are ‘easy listening’ and ‘music of your life’ though it would be a grandparent’s life to modern kids.

   And originally shmaltz is a cheap butter substitute, made by covering the skin and fat from a chicken, along with apple and onion slices, with water, then simmering until the water has boiled away. Strain and cool.

   I have never found “fitting” a thing to be desired. Those who want to fit, and don’t, are left out and usually hurt in the process and those who do fit are self exiled into their own little clique and walled away from the rest of the world. Why would anyone want to “fit” when there is a whole big world out there and so little time to see and do it all?
