    A stray cat managed to win his way into our hearts last year, so I took him to the vet to get him “made special.” The receptionist asked, “What’s his name?” I said, “He doesn’t have a name.” So she looked at him and said, “How about Bill?” I said, “Umm…no I don’t think he’s a Bill. Have you ever heard of Bill the Cat?” She said, “Umm…I think so. Is he on TV or something?” (She looked about 18.) I said, “Let’s just call him Buddy.” And Buddy he is to this day. And a sweetheart, once we taught him not to pee on the bathroom mat. Our store-bought cats occasionally cough up a hairball, but I’ve never caught Buddy at it.

    The sound a cat makes while coughing up a hairball will send me bolting out of bed from the deepest slumber shouting, “Outside! Outside!” while snatching up an extreemly startled feline in mid-barf.
