This high-flying single-panel comic spotlights and savors the foibles, stupidity, and goofiness of our colorful unnatural world. It's all about attitude, as the denizens of Bluemel's realm devote themselves to surviving life's pitfalls, whether nesting in quicksand or coping with the technological advances of the tapeworm. From word play to fowl play, from weirdness in the wilderness, to the irony of iron ore, Birdbrains makes the offbeat seem natural. It's a feature to laugh at: if it makes you think, you're working too hard.

My Cuddles could speak very well but she was very selective about the phrases she learned. Other than simple greetings “Hello, how are you!” which she said in multiple variations, she was fond of saying “I love you” to men who she found attractive as well as to me. Notably, she used it with great expression as she pleaded with me not to inject her cleation medicine (she had extended treatments to recover from ingestion of costume jewelry).
There were other things she said a single appropriate time: “shut up” to a yappy little dog (before she jumped down and chased it off), “I like red” when I scolded her about grabbing at a woman wearing a red jacket, “I like to play” when she was being passed around in a large crowd of partygoers. In this tape she laughs and whispers “I have to practice” and demonstrates how she likes her name as well as “Hi, darlin, is it good?”, then shows her reactions as others speak on a tape we were watching, laughs and says “I wanna talk”- funny that while taping I missed so much of what she said.

I’ve had parakeets in my lifetime. I bet they wished they could say what they felt like saying.
