This high-flying single-panel comic spotlights and savors the foibles, stupidity, and goofiness of our colorful unnatural world. It's all about attitude, as the denizens of Bluemel's realm devote themselves to surviving life's pitfalls, whether nesting in quicksand or coping with the technological advances of the tapeworm. From word play to fowl play, from weirdness in the wilderness, to the irony of iron ore, Birdbrains makes the offbeat seem natural. It's a feature to laugh at: if it makes you think, you're working too hard.

So, that’s what “to protect and to serve” really means?

Ok Thom, you piqued my interest; are Skip and Gordon firefighters, fallen or otherwise, I salute them as well as your for your extension of honor. I like it very much when the crator weaves their personal life visibly into their production, as you , Carlos and Hector (Baldo) and Dave Alverez (Yenny) do. It makes for an even stronger connection when I read my daily comix. Let me not forget, Wiley from Non Sequitor as well!

Yes, both Skip & Gordon were firefighters with the L.A. City Fire Department. Skip was my father-in-law and he passed away from lung cancer a few years ago. Gordon, one of his best friends, is still alive. Both have/had seen their share of some very tough fires, both saved many lives and both braved danger like real heroes. I salute ALL firefighters - they are a different breed and thank God for them! In Southern California, we have what we call “fire season,” so we are always acutely aware of our firefighting heroes. We just lost another two of them. Thanks for sharing my tribute,
Thom
