Born on July 10, 1980, Jessica Ann Simpson began singing in her local church choir in her native Texas. At 12, she auditioned unsuccessfully for "the New Mickey Mouse Club," the TV show that featured such future stars as Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, J.C. Chasez, and Britney Spears. Discovered at a church camp by the head of contemporary Christian Label, she was soon performing on the Christian Youth Conference Circuit. This led to a recording contract with SONY and the release of "Sweet Kisses," the 1999 major label debut album that launched the hit single, "I Wanna Love You Forever." For her second single, Jessica teamed up with boyfriend Nick Lachey of boy-band sensation 98 Degrees on "Where You Are." But sales of her next album, 2001's "Irresistible," were disappointing.

It seemed Jessica might be lost in the slipstream of such high-flying peers as Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears...

But her 2002 wedding to Lachey changed everything. The couple starred on the MTV reality series "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, " and Jessica's verbal gaffes soon became the stuff of legend, as when she famously asked Nick whether the "Chicken of the Sea" tuna fish she was eating was chicken or fish.

The show was a huge hit, and Jessica shrewdly played her "dumb blonde" persona to the hilt. They quickly became America's most-celebrated couple and a permanent fixture of tabloid page and TV screen.

And by landing the coveted role of Daisy in the movie re-make of TV's "The Dukes of Hazzard," the woman with the ditziest reputation in the business showed that she's really one of the smartest cookies!
