    This weekend I’ll be be making Irish Lamb Stew. The receipe actually calls for bacon as one of the ingredients. I’ll be using thick cut pepper bacon.

    Good Morning Tribe!

    My week off work is nearly over and I think I’ve balanced relaxation and responsibility pretty well this time

    Usually I either try to do many household projects on my week off, or I’m a complete slug for the week

    I have accomplished at least one responsible thing every day, but I’ve also managed to work in a couple of training sessions every day with my furry Napmasters too

    Never mind a good B.C. character, you’d make a good Klingon. Leaving aside the vicious uber-pig called a targ native to their world, there was a running gag on STARTREK.COM for quite a while between its featured “Klingon columnist” (who had discovered pork and finally the love of his life, bacon) and his readers.

    @Citizen GROG!

    As strange as this may sound, I wrote a poem in honor of his love of bacon, and here it is (eventually it got published on STARTREK.com but it isn’t there now, nor are any of the columns):

    KLINGON HOME COOKING

    I loved her targ, her plates of gagh,
    Her warnog stirred and shaken;
    But nothing in this life compares
    To Mother’s Terran bacon.

    Those strips of flesh, so greasy fat,
    When smoked and steeped in brine,
    Were absolutely just the thing
    To go with ale or wine.

    And oh! the chops, the ribs, the feet,
    The heads so neatly split;
    The rinds deep-fried and dipped in spice,
    The cubes cooked on a spit!

    How is it so, on this wet world
    Where pig is all the rage,
    That no one cooks it properly?
    ’Twould boggle any sage.

    So here I sit inside a hut,
    One eye upon the cam,
    And try to lose my memories
    Within a can of SPAM.

    _Wink, that’s something you’re born with, you either have it or you don’t. (At least to that degree.)

    interesting poem Alain.

    Alain, I do so love my pork products and I think that poem just just seems to neetly wrap it up in bacon.

    I will soon be taking delivery on an indoor smoker. I suppose I’d love to try some good pork smoking receipes, but my more immediate goal is trying to replicate a Montreal style old fashion smoked meat sandwich. While living in Montreal, many a Friday lunch was spent at Reubins Deli, home of what thought was the best smoked meat. If I didn’t go there for lunch, I’d do take out and bring it back to the office.

    Good Morning, All,

    That is one thing I miss about living in Montana……..there are NO Deli’s. NO Pastrami sandwiches. NO kosher dill pickles. NO deli food at all. What they call pastrami here is nothing but thinly sliced lunch meat. I want the real thing! So, every time we go down to SoCal, one of my favorite stops is “Brent’s Deli” in Northridge, CA. The best deli in the San Fernando Valley.
