It’s typical. Good thing Francis ain’t there. Otherwise, Francis would get a turbo wedgie from Nate

So gang, with help from Uncle Wiseguy in the alterNate universe, our favorite little mischief maker finally got a girlfriend! Maureen is a wonderful girl Nate. Best wishes from one Wiseguy to another!!

Dunno. It just disappeared. Would redo it if I thought it was important.

Of course it’s important! It was a classic, even if only in the alterNATE universe. Nate has NEVER not flipped over even the mention of Jenny!!

No “lay” is correct it is the past tense. He wanted to go back to sleep but he couldn’t, so he lay in bed. The sentence is in past tense

He’s using present tense. I think. It’s usually used during movies when the characters are telling dramatic stories (flashback!) but Nate must consider this quite tragic.

Well, what do you know — so did YOU!

Don’t bother. Not only is it unimportant, it’s unnecessary. You see, the difference between your “alternate” and the one in “Alley Oop” is, the AO strip is being run into the ground by the senile, sh#@-for-brains Benders and, therefore, the “Alternate” story that Night-Gaunt49 provides is better than the strip. Your “AlterNATE,” as you call it, is not needed here, because Big Nate is a very funny strip that does not need improving.

Why not try an “Alternate” story line in a strip that’s actually suffering, such as “Gasoline Alley”? Jim Scancarelli seems to have fallen into a creative slump in that strip, over-using the characters of Slim, Joel and Rufus, while neglecting some of the other GA folks.

Nate is using past tense in Panel 1 and 2.

I feel your pain Nate. I used to hit the snooze button at least 3 times every morning before work. Now that I am retired my eyes pop open at 5 or 6 every morning.
